HOW IT WORKS

Follow these steps to determine if you qualify to receive benefits from the Academic Common Market.

  1. Step 1

Apply and be admitted to a WVU graduate program that provides ACM benefits to students from your state of residence.

  2. Step 2

Apply for certification of residency by contacting your home state ACM Coordinator. The State Coordinator will certify your residency and notify the WVU ACM Coordinator. Direct any questions about this process to your home state ACM Coordinator. This step may take up to 6 weeks or longer, so apply early. Please note the following firm deadlines for receipt of residency certification letters:

    • Fall term program start – July 31
    • Spring term program start – December 15
    • Summer term program start – April 30
  3. Step 3

Your home state ACM Coordinator will send a letter certifying your residency to the WVU ACM Coordinator. Within 3 weeks, the WVU ACM Coordinator will determine your eligibility for ACM benefits. If you are eligible, the WVU Office of the Registrar will grant you in-state status for tuition and fee billing.

  4. Step 4

The WVU ACM Coordinator will send a letter to your permanent address notifying you of approval for ACM benefits.

ADDITIONAL ACM DETAILS

  • Nominees must be US citizens or permanent residents.
  • ACM tuition benefits are not automatic. You must be admitted as a regular degree-seeking graduate student to an ACM-eligible program at WVU through the normal admissions process and must meet your home state residency requirements. ACM benefits apply only to courses required for your approved degree program. ACM benefits may not be used to complete courses toward a different or additional degree or certificate.
  • You will not need to reapply every year for ACM benefits through WVU, provided that you:
    • Remain enrolled full-time (9 credits) in each fall and spring term in the approved degree program.
    • Earn passing grades (as defined by the degree program) in at least 9 credits in each fall and spring term.
    • Maintain good academic standing (WVU requires a 2.75 GPA at the graduate level, but some degree programs require a higher GPA or have additional criteria for good academic standing).
    • Retain home state residency.
  • Failure to meet the requirements for continued ACM benefits will result in removal from the ACM program. Out-of-state tuition and fees will be assessed in subsequent terms.
