Graduate Council

The University Graduate Council helps shape graduate education at WVU. The Council:

  • Reviews all graduate programs every 5 years on behalf of the WVU Board of Governors. See BOG program review process. [hyperlink to https://faculty.wvu.edu/policies-and-procedures/board-of-governors-program-review]
  • Approves requests for new graduate programs (including degree programs, certificates, majors, and areas of emphasis).
  • Approves proposals for program changes and terminations.
  • Considers major policy issues related to graduate education.
  • Determines the rules for Graduate Faculty membership.

The Graduate Council meets monthly and consists of voting and non-voting, ex officio members. Voting members represent the graduate faculty of West Virginia University.
