Fellowships

WVU offers several fellowships to stellar incoming PhD students, as well as to other doctoral and MFA students for select fellowships.

OGEL manages the nomination process for five fellowship programs. These fellowships may provide students with stipends, tuition waivers, and/or research and travel support.

Students must be nominated for fellowships and may not apply directly.

Arlen G. & Louise Stone Swiger Fellowships – 3-year fellowships awarded to incoming doctoral students

STEM Fellowships – Up to 3-year fellowships awarded to incoming doctoral students in STEM fields (dependent on state funding)

W.E.B. Du Bois Fellowships – 3-year fellowships awarded to incoming African-American doctoral and professional students, excluding those in the Health Sciences

University Provost Fellowships – 3-year fellowships awarded to incoming doctoral students

Ruby Distinguished Doctoral Fellowships – 3-year fellowships awarded to incoming doctoral students in STEM fields
