Fellowships


WVU offers several fellowships to stellar incoming Ph.D. students, as well as to other doctoral and MFA students for select fellowships.

OGEL manages the nomination process for the following fellowship programs. These fellowships may provide students with stipends, tuition waivers, and/or research and travel support. 

Students must be nominated for fellowships and may not apply directly.


Arlen G. & Louise Stone Swiger Fellowships

3-year fellowships awarded to incoming doctoral students.

Outstanding Merit Fellowship for Continuing Doctoral Students

The Outstanding Merit Fellowship for Continuing Doctoral Students is reserved to support doctoral-level students who have completed at least one year of doctoral study.

Ruby Distinguished Doctoral Fellowships

3-year fellowships awarded to incoming doctoral students in STEM fields.

SREB - Doctoral Scholars Program

The goal of SREB is for more minority Ph.D. students to seek careers as faculty members on college campuses.

Up to 3-year fellowships awarded to incoming doctoral students in STEM fields (dependent on state funding).
